Healthy smile or hidden damage?
Acid wear is a growing concern. Acid wear is the process where the
protective layer of tooth enamel and root surface dentin gradually
dissolve through repeated exposure to acidic foods or drinks, and/or
acids from the stomach. Over time, this wear can leave the enamel
and the dentin weakened and sensitive.
Acid wear is not reversible, but if you have
concerns, let us know at your next appointment and we can advise you
of the steps to take to minimize future acid exposure and help
reduce the effects of acid wear. Please refer to the chart below for
some examples of foods and drinks to watch out for. Patients
suffering from acid reflux are advised to speak with their
physicians about this contributing condition.
